Executive order to put health care, insurance mergers under added scrutiny

President Joe Biden signed an executive order calling on the Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission to take a tougher stance on mergers of health insurance companies, hospitals, pharmaceutical firms and hearing aid makers that decrease competition and raise prices, reports Healthcare Finance News. Consolidation in the health insurance industry, for example, has meant that many consumers have little choice when it comes to selecting insurers, the order said.
