Cigna wins lawsuit over denial of claims from ex-NFL players

A federal judge ruled in favor of Cigna following a lawsuit that accused the insurer of unjustly denying claims made by former NFL players, according to Becker’s Hospital Review, citing reporting by Law 360.  Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna was sued for ERISA violations after it denied claims from Advanced Physicians for the treatment of NFL players. The insurer claimed billed amounts were unusual and later found players visited the Chicago-area physical therapy provider from out of state to address work-related injuries that the plan did not cover, Becker’s reports.
